I received an Aerogarden 7 as a gift and I have to say it’s pretty amazing. The only downside to this self-watering garden is that it’s using expensive grow light bulbs with a specific connector that is hard to find at your local hardware store. With the Aerogarden bulb adapter, it is easy to use regular compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) that you could easily find anywhere.
In addition, these bulb adapters are perfect for an easy Aerogarden LED conversion. This is one of the simplest Aerogarden hacks that will make it much more convenient to use. Why not upgrade it to the latest technology!

Aerogarden hacks: grow light replacement
The Aerogarden uses G23 socket so the first step is to get an adapter to convert it to an E27 socket. You can easily get a pair of those online and they are definitely a good buy. Just make sure to look for G23 adapters instead of Gx23 that won’t fit in your Aerogarden. I have used these G23 socket adapters for a while and they worked perfectly fine. Furthermore, these adapters can save you a lot of money! CFL or LED Grow lights with an E27 base are cheap easy to find online or at your local hardware store.
I’m using Sylvania CFL as a replacement (100W equivalent, day light 6500K). You can buy any type of light bulb you want, but you should keep in mind that in order to fit in your Aerogarden, the bulbs should not be larger than 2 inches and longer than 5.5 inches including the 1.5 inches adapter. As you can see, the grow light bulbs I’m using are shorter than the originals and the light emitted is not exactly the same, but it’s a cheap alternative and it worked perfectly fine.

Selecting the right CFL grow light replacement for your Aerogarden
I used it so far for the Gourmet herb seed pod kit and the result was good, as you can see.The growing lights I am using are 6500K. This means that the light emitted is in the Daylight range (5000K-6500K) compared to a Natural White (4000K) or Warm white (2700K-3000K). You can use different types of color temperature depending on your growing needs. Plants can usually grow easily with Daylight color but some plants may require a Warm white color for them to produce flowers. You can thus change them easily to fit your growing needs.
Aerogarden LED conversion: upgrade your old CFL Aerogarden to LED!
Another amazing thing about these grow light adaptors is that they allow the use of standard LED growing lights. This is nice because you can then easily upgrade your old CFL Aerogarden to LED.
The conversion of your Aerogarden to LED has two main advantages. First, you will save money because of LED’s low power consumption. At the same time, the LED Aerogarden will produce less heat, which can be quite convenient during hot summer days. As opposed to CFLs, LEDs will also prevent plants from burning if they reach the growing lamps. These LED lights also last much longer, so you will not have to worry all the time about finding growing light replacements for your Aerogarden.
You can easily find replacements LED grow lights that can fit in your Aerogarden. The one shown above is a 3000K warm white natural light with full spectrum. These LED grow lights also have a 270 degrees rotatable base, so that they can be easily adjusted to obtain perfect lighting of your plants. Furthermore, this model has a 30 day money back guarantee plus a 12 months warranty.
I personally opted for a similar model for my Aerogarden. As you can see in the picture below, these LED growing lights fit perfectly into an old CFL-based Aerogarden when using a G23 adapter. Moreover, they produce a nice natural light with a faint pink color that my plants loved. Check out how it looks in the picture below.
